Innotab a Tablet Device Designed Specifically for the Kiddliwinks

The innotab is basically a children’s version of the ipad, it’s an apps based tablet that comes with a touch screen (which can also rotate just like the ipad depending on how you hold it) and a whole range of fantastic apps like the art studio which kids will love.

Innotab software cartridges may be purchased for $25, providing additional learning and fun to keep your student entertained while learning. At launch, there are nine software cartridges from which to choose, including Disney/Pixar’s Cars 2, Disney Fairies, Disney Princess, Dora the Explorer, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, The Penguins of Madagascar, Scooby-Doo, SpongeBob Squarepants and Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story. The company expects to have over 100 download titles available by the end of the year. The tablet comes with 128MB of storage in-built (mainly to service the pre-installed software and apps), players for MP3s and video files, a display stand on the rear, and a little stylus, although a finger can control many of the less intricate functions.

The InnoTab most significant feature obviously is its crisp 5 inch color multi-touch screen that works much like the screen on the Vtech Mobigo. Kids can touch, drag, flick objects on the screen to manipulate and interact with them. Like with the LeapFrog LeapPad, the VTech InnoTab is a tablet device designed specifically for the kiddliwinks. It has a 5-inch LCD touchscreen, G-sensor control to interact with motion-based games, auto rotation to present the screen in portrait and ladscape modes, and an SD card slot to store pictures, new applications and the like. Build quality of the VTech is very impressive. While we wouldn't advise it, we'd expect it to take quite a bashing and still work just as well. Unlike the LeapPad, the bezel and surround that border the touchscreen is wide and chunky, and although it's still smaller than an iPad (for example), it's still big enough to fool younger kids.

Leappad Explorer Tablet - Reviews

What’s the best tablet for kids? Apple’s iPad? One of the Android tablets? Er, the HP TouchPad..? Maybe none of these adult-aimed tablets but one specially made for children - Leapfrog Tablet for kids is tipped to be one of the most popular toys this Christmas. LeapPad works with all Leapster and Leapfrog Explorer cartridge games. Unlike iPad and Android games and apps the Leapfrog Tablet apps aren’t priced from 69p or even £2.99. Prices start at £3.50 and many are £5 or £7.50. That’s expensive in terms of mobile apps, so you’re playing a premium even Apple wouldn’t dare charge.

The Leapfrog Tablet built-in camera allows kids to become the stars of their own stories. The Story Studio and Art Studio apps allow children to modify pictures they take and drop them into storybooks. Both apps are free and can be downloaded once you register the device. The girls loved the rolling ball game, collecting food for a picnic by tilting and twisting the pad - its very responsive and the games are intuitive. Like other Leapfrog games the pad remembers what you have achieved before so you don’t have to go back and start from the beginning every time. You can also set up multiple profiles so if you have more than 1 child they can have their own set up, unique to them, trust me this is a great thing.

With the introduction of the LeapPad, LeapFrog continues to distinguish themselves as industry leaders who develop innovative tech savvy educational tools for learning. Content is fun for kids, yet educational and varying levels of play allows for differentiated learning that gently supports a child’s success and mastery of skills. The sleek design of the LeapPad makes it easier for smaller hands to hold while added features such as the camera, video recorder, and microphone enrich educational play.

Star Wars Ultimate FX Lightsabers - Ignite the fight!

Hasbro, who apparently owns the rights to all Star Wars toys, sent me the Ultimate FX Lightsaber to try out. As someone who has loved Star Wars since the first time I saw it in kindergarten, I was happy to try out any replica of a lightsaber. It’s always nice when the daily delivery of mail brings something that isn’t junk catalogs, fliers, or (even worse) a bill, but no matter how early in the day it is, you can officially call it a win when the mailman brings you a lightsaber. Arm yourself with the ultimate weapon of power and skill! Battle the Jedi or the Sith with this extraordinarily realistic lightsaber. Ignite the fight!

Just turning on the Ultimate FX Lightsaber and watching the light shoot up from the hilt of the lightsaber is really cool and the light colour is really strong and bright. For the best results try to use rechargable batteries and keep them well charged. This incredible lightsaber looks and feels just like the one used by DARTH VADER! The glowing blade ignites with light and makes sounds when you power up, power down, and clash in battle! It’s the ultimate weapon to make your Star Wars battles incredibly real!

Still, this Ultimate FX Lightsaber isn’t a Nerf toy, and the ability swing the glowing blade through the air while hearing that familiar hum and crash doesn’t come without some restrictions on what you can and cannot wail on with Midichlorian-fueled fury. That means that if you want to beat your housemate senseless for asking what the Klingons were up to during Return of the Jedi, you’re probably out of luck. Act just like ANAKIN SKYWALKER with a glowing, humming, clashing lightsaber that looks and feels just like the real thing! Realistic lightsaber features a bright, glowing blade with power-up and power-down light effects, motion-sensor controlled sound effects and battle-clash lights and sounds. Star Wars fans can arm themselves with the ultimate weapon of power and skill, featuring light and sound effects. Practise using the force and challenge your friends to a fight for the galaxy.

Nerf Swarmfire Reviews

The Nerf Swarmfire Blaster has many features and benefits worth addressing. First, this new blaster is affordably priced. With an MSRP of $29.99, you won't get sticker shock. In addition, the Swarmfire is fully automatic with three shot burst capability, and it is equipped with a fierce 20-dart attack! Actually, the rotating barrel houses twenty-one darts to be exact. The stock is detachable for on-the-go missions. Because the Nerf Swarmfire is compact and lightweight, it is very easy for just about everyone to handle. The Nerf DartTag Swarmfire weighs in at just under five pounds. This gun also features a simple ON/OFF switch -- there are no flywheels here.

It looks like 2011's bringing us plenty of great new additions to Nerf arsenals everywhere, and the Nerf Swarmfire is ready to give any Dart Tag player plenty of foam firepower. With twenty darts loaded up, you're ready to take your friends on head to head, and staring down those barrels will give them plenty of reason to think twice about shooting first. The blaster itself is very durable, and will hold up well to extended play. I haven’t experienced any jamming issues, and the autofire works as advertised. As with other automatic Nerf guns, the Swarmfire does require batteries to operate (6 Cs). I don’t know exactly how long you can expect the batteries to last, but I can tell you that I’ve probably put a solid half hour of firing time into mine and it’s still going strong. Considering that you can empty the blaster completely in about 10 seconds, you can expect to get pretty good life out of your batteries. The Swarmfire has the ability to fire off about 20 Nerf darts at once. I’m not certain if that is a record for a Nerf gun, but it is certainly enough to give any warrior a distinct advantage in the coming Nerf wars. Personally, if I had a gun that could hold 20 Nerf darts, I would want the ability to shoot them off one at a time. I don’t have any word from my Source on whether or not you can do what seems to me an obvious feature.

What's more fun that shooting Nerf Swarmfire darts at a coworker hunched over a stack of files? Shooting 20 darts in rapid succession at them - 10 in the back and 10 in the kisser. The Nerf gun that handles the job best? The Nerf Dart Tag Swarmfire. Surprisingly, the Nerf Dart Tag Swarmfire is powered by six 'C' batteries -- not the usual AA batteries. That makes the blaster a bit heavier; however it is still lightweight and compact. Also, the batteries are not included as part of the package, so make sure to pick up some extra batteries along with your purchase. Nerf guns seem to satisfy that part of us that wants to go around shooting people. Not because we want to kill them, but there’s nothing quite as excited as a good old-fashioned shootout. Well if you’re looking for the gun that’s going to give you an edge in the foam-dart arena, this Nerf Dart Tag Swarmfire might just be what you need.

Smokey The Fire Truck Reviews

Smokey the Fire Truck has multiple modes for different kinds of interactions. Depending on his positioning, Smokey can operate in one of two main modes--character mode or truck mode. Smokey is in character mode when he is half or fully upright, and says phrases such as, "Smokey here! Reporting for duty!" When Smokey is on all six wheels, he is in truck mode and can be pushed forward and pulled backward to activate lights and sounds.

After the amazing Rocky the Robot Truck and last years must-have Stinky the Garbage Truck Matchbox have released Smokey the Fire Truck to join the Big Rig Buddies line and I have a feeling that Smokey is going to be one of the most popular toys that Matchbox have released so far.

Then with the push of another button Smokey springs to life and becomes a walking talking robot truck, the front wheels move as arms and he can move from side to side. Using motion sensors and sound activation, Smokey is always on alert. He knows how to say over 95 phrases and can sing 4 different songs. He won't sing every time, so keep raising and lowering him if you really want to hear him. Though he's always ready to play, Smokey will fall asleep if you leave him alone long enough. Press his lights or push him around to wake him up again! On top of Smokey you will notice his water cannon, after all he is a fire engine, when Smokey will tell you that there is a fire and you can then use the water cannon which is actually a launcher to shoot out a plastic rocket, kids will go crazy for this. You can actually load up to 3 water rockets and fire them and Smokey will let you know when he is empty so you can reload!

Overall, Smokey the Fire Truck from Matchbox is a fun way for young boys to play. They will enjoy the interactive toy, and it makes individual play much more fun. Be aware that that this talking fire truck is very well packaged, and may take a while to remove from it’s carton.
